Which should I use...YuJa or ScreenPal?

Answer

Marian University subscribes to two video recording services, YuJa and ScreenPal.  Both allow users to record, edit, present, and link to content for later viewing.  One question that is commonly asked is what the preferred platform is.

Both these platforms work very efficiently at recording video, and both have directed or preferred uses.

YuJa is the preferred platform for recorded course lectures and providing consistent and stable hosting.  Integrated within Canvas, YuJa has video editing capabilities as well as embedded interactivity (quizzes, knowledge checks) within its platform, including the option for saving and sharing content via playlists.  Overall, it is the general choice for longer presentations and lectures made available to students who may need to rewatch for added comprehension.

ScreenPal, on the other hand, is preferred for taking quick snapshots, tutorials, or demonstrations of what is presented on a user's screen.  It is very useful for succinctly demonstrating encountered problems, troubleshooting technical issues, or communicating the important and specific steps in a process.  ScreenPal also has the video editing capabilities that YuJa does, but an important point is that videos can be exported from ScreenPal into YuJa to further supplement course videos and content.
