What if there is unknown content in my new Canvas course?

Answer

Currently, there is an error in the automatic process when creating new courses within Canvas. New courses might be created with the same SIS ID number as a course from before we switched to the Colleague/MU-HUB Student Information System. If this occurs, new courses get created on top of very old courses from 2016 or earlier) and may still have the content of the old course. The fix is to make sure you reset the course before adding your new content so you can start with a fresh slate:

  1. Go to the course.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. On the right side, you should see an option to "Reset Course Content." Select it.
  4. Confirm that you want to reset the course. Doing so will revert it back to a completely blank course, so it is ideal to do this before you have brought anything new into the course. If you have already brought in content, you will need to decide if you want to recreate it after the course has been refreshed, or if it is better to clear out the content from the previous course manually.
