Are there guidelines for AI use at MU?

Answer

Yes, Marian University has created an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), an evolving product of the university's Artificial Intelligence Steering Committee.  (AUP) regarding the use of artificial intelligence responsibly.  This policy establishes the principles and guidelines for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools by all members of the university community, including faculty, staff, and students. Its purpose is to promote ethical, secure, and effective use of AI technologies in alignment with the university’s mission and values.

Additionally, as part of the section on Protection of University Data, there is a document outlining MU Data Classifications, categorized according to various institutional security levels. With these different levels, the institution can implement appropriate safeguards to protect privacy, ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and mitigate operational, financial, and reputational risks. Users should become familiar with these levels when working with university data, regardless of using AI.
