Q. Do I have an Open Athens account?

Most likely if you are a student or faculty member at Marian University you do NOT have an OpenAthens username and password, not do you need one. Open Athens is an "authentication method" for off-site access to Library materials for licensed users of our libraries that do NOT have a network credential. A network credential is the username and password you use for Email and Canvas.

It is also important to understand that an OpenAthens credential will NOT grant you access to additional electronic materials over and above what we already offer you on our library page / database page and electronic journal pages. Often because vendors and publishers ALLOW for an OpenAthens account access, users think once they are granted an OpenAthens account they would get additional access -- this does NOT happen. Whatever access the library has with vendors and publishers with the normal network credentials (Email/Canvas UN/PW) this access matches what you can gain via OpenAthens.

If you have questions or concerns about this access you may contact Chris Bishop, Health Sciences Librarian, administrator for our Open Athens account for Marian University. cbishop@marian.edu
